Which calculator should you use?
Almost everyone arrives with one of five questions. Match yours to the right tool rather than working through all six:
- You were told the raise percentage and want to know the new number — use the Salary Increase Calculator.
- You know your old and new pay but not the percentage between them — use the Raise Percentage Calculator.
- You are weighing a salaried role against an hourly one, or a recruiter quoted a rate in the other unit — use Salary to Hourly or Hourly to Salary.
- You got a raise but prices went up too, and you want to know whether you actually gained ground — use the Cost of Living Raise Calculator.
- You have two offers and the higher salary is not obviously the better deal — use the Job Offer Comparison Calculator.
What these calculators will not tell you
They all report gross pay — the figure before tax, insurance, and retirement contributions come out. None of them knows your filing status, your state, your benefit elections, or how your employer runs payroll, so none of them can produce your exact take-home pay. Where a tool does estimate an after-deduction amount, it multiplies your gross change by one effective rate that you type in yourself, and the result is labelled as an estimate rather than take-home pay.
Every formula is written out in plain arithmetic on our methodology page, and the longer explanations behind each tool live in the guides section.

Common questions
How many paychecks are in a year?
Fifty-two if you are paid weekly, 26 every two weeks, 24 semimonthly, and 12 monthly. Biweekly and semimonthly are easy to confuse: biweekly means every second Friday, which produces 26 cheques and two months a year with three of them. Semimonthly means twice a month on fixed dates, which is always 24.
Do you store the salary I type in?
No. Every calculation runs in your browser, and nothing you type is sent to our server or written to a database. If you copy a share link, the values ride after the # symbol in the URL, which browsers do not transmit to the server — but anyone you send that link to can read them.
Why is the raise on my payslip smaller than the calculator says?
Because the calculator shows gross pay and your payslip shows what is left after deductions. A raise is also often taxed at your marginal rate, which is higher than the average rate applied to your existing income, so the extra money is deducted more heavily than the rest of your pay.
Are these calculators free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no paywall, and no limit on how many times you use them.
